From Derelict Brick Shell to Refined Family Retreat in Allambie Heights

At Construction Concierge, we were engaged to oversee the full transformation of a tired two-storey brick home in Allambie Heights into a light-filled, contemporary family residence. Our clients approached us with a clear vision: take a structurally sound but dated property and breathe new life into it through smart design, high-quality finishes, and seamless indoor-outdoor living. This project is a testament to how thoughtful renovation can unlock the full potential of a home, no matter its starting point.

Client’s Requirements

Our clients recognised the potential of the property—solid bones and a generous block in a great location—but were faced with a home that was dark, disconnected, and in disrepair. The interiors were outdated, the bathrooms non-functional, and the garage and yard underutilised.

They engaged us to manage the project from start to finish, including design development, council approvals, and construction delivery. Their goal was to create a warm, modern home that would accommodate family living, entertain guests with ease, and maximise the outdoor space—without overcapitalising.

Design Vision

The design vision centred on creating a cohesive and inviting home that embraced a clean coastal aesthetic while improving spatial flow, function, and flexibility. We prioritised natural light, durable materials, and a calming palette that would complement the leafy Allambie Heights surrounds.

Working within the existing envelope, we reconfigured the internal layout, added new bathrooms, opened the living areas, and created strong visual and physical connections between inside and out.

Complete Interior Reconfiguration

The original floor plan was typical of its era—compartmentalised and inefficient. We restructured the internal zones to introduce open-plan living, dining, and kitchen spaces that now flow seamlessly to the backyard. Walls were removed, skylights introduced, and glazing maximised to allow natural light to flood the home.

Designer Kitchen with Butler’s Pantry

The kitchen was transformed into a refined workspace with minimalist joinery, high-performance appliances, and generous storage. A connected butler’s pantry adds functionality while keeping the main kitchen pristine for hosting.

Three Luxurious Bathrooms

The bathrooms were designed as private sanctuaries, with large-format stone-look tiles, fluted vanities, brushed nickel tapware, and oversized rain showers. The main bathroom includes a freestanding bath under frosted glass for privacy, while the master ensuite features double basins and arched mirrors for a soft architectural statement.

Outdoor Entertaining and Firepit Zone

We completely reimagined the backyard with a covered alfresco area that includes a built-in BBQ, bar fridge, and dining space. Adjacent, a bespoke firepit corner with curved gabion bench seating provides a relaxed and stylish retreat for outdoor evenings.

The Result

What now stands is a complete reimagination of family living in Allambie Heights. The once dark and disconnected brick dwelling has become a sophisticated, inviting retreat—balancing open, airy interiors with premium materials and thoughtful outdoor zones. Every inch of the property now works harder and smarter, providing comfort, flexibility, and visual cohesion across all spaces.
