Meeting with builders can be overwhelming. It is difficult to know who to consider for your project. You should look at this as an interview process based on your needs and wants. In a future ebook we will give you the template to a perfect builder interview but here we want to show you how to simplify the process and start getting some rough estimates.
Here are 3 important points to understand:
01
It is important to get along with your builder. This is a long term relationship. You will be working with this builder for the duration of your project and not everything will always go to plan. Get a feel for how you relate to them and whether or not you are surfing the same wave!
02
At this stage you want to be getting rough price estimates from the builders based on what they have seen and the current approved plans. No one will be able to give you a final price from DA drawings as your construction documentation would not have been developed yet. You will however get a good feel for pricing based on the builder’s initial feedback.
03
Ask the builder if they have any recommendations or any changes they would make to save on costs or time. This is a good exercise as you will be able to compare notes with the different builders you meet and see who may be more interested in the job.
“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France
